‘Proof’ To Take the Stage at Roger Williams Summer Playhouse
BRISTOL, R.I., June 2008 – “Proof,” David Auburn’s 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play, will prove itself yet again on the Roger Williams University Performing Arts Center stage in July.
In “Proof,” Catherine grapples with the death of her mentally ill father, a mathematical genius who left behind numerous notebooks of work. When Hal, her father’s ex-student, searches the notebooks for groundbreaking mathematical proofs over a long weekend, a romance ensues between the two. Meanwhile, Catherine worries about the possibility of inheriting her father’s mental illness.
After the play succeeded on Broadway, Mr. Auburn transformed the story into a screenplay for the 2005 film “Proof,” starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Performances will run July 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19, at 8 p.m. The play—directed by Peter Wright, professor of theater at Roger Williams University—will be held at the Performing Arts Center located on the University’s Bristol campus at One Old Ferry Road.
Tickets cost $10 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.
