Mixed-Media Installation Artist to Discuss Recent Artwork at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I., March 2008 – For most of us, the only time we handle leaves is when we’re tidying our yards. But for Janet Pihlblad, leaves, moss, stones and plants are some of the materials she uses to create organically infused works of art.
Ms. Pihlblad—mixed-media installation artist and visiting artist at Roger Williams University—will discuss her current exhibition of artwork in a presentation at Roger Williams University on Wednesday, March 26.
In “Between the Winding Years of Heaven,” Ms. Pihlblad will explain the evolution of her current work on exhibit and its relationship to her previous work. The exhibit includes works made from intricately cut and preserved leaves and drawings on paper, paper sculptures and digital prints. According to Ms. Pihlblad, the exhibit “balances a conceptual/analytical approach with sensitivity to the deeply emotional impact of the Iraq War.”
Her solo exhibitions have appeared at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City, the Carrie Secrist Gallery in Chicago and the Evanston Art Center in Evanston, Ill. Ms. Pihlblad has an M.F.A. from Rutgers University and a B.F.A. in sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute.
Ms. Pihlblad’s presentation will be held at 6 p.m. in the School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation (SAAHP), room 132, on the Bristol campus at One Old Ferry Road. A gallery reception will follow. Her exhibit titled “Janet Pihlblad” will be on display in the SAAHP Gallery Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Wednesday, April 2.
The lecture and exhibit are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation at (401) 254-3605.
