CNN Host Lou Dobbs Rescheduled to Speak at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I., January 2008 – During an interview last week on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” host Wolf Blitzer asked Lou Dobbs to comment about rumors that he’s considering a third-party candidacy for president. After refusing “to say never,” Mr. Dobbs affirmed that he is not contemplating running: “I don’t have the nature and the personality to put up with the nonsense that these candidates have to put up with.”

No stranger to controversy, Mr. Dobbs— financial news legend and anchor for CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight”—will visit Roger Williams University as part of its Civil Discourse lecture series on Thursday, Jan. 31, to share his insights on the most topical issues affecting our country today.

Mr. Dobbs was originally scheduled to speak at the University in September 2007, but rescheduled his visit due to a tonsillectomy.

“Civil Discourse is designed to bring to campus as many points of view as possible,” said University President Roy J. Nirschel. “Recent speakers run the gamut from Salman Rushdie to Gary Bauer, David Gergen to Bob Geldof—whether they agree with him or not, Lou Dobbs will certainly energize our students.”

Mr. Dobbs will speak at 5:30 p.m. in the University’s Recreation Center Gymnasium on the Bristol Campus at One Old Ferry Road. The event is free and open to the public as space allows (call 401.254.3067 for tickets). Members of the media are encouraged to attend as well.

During his presentation, the noted financial journalist and author will offer a broad view that covers global and domestic issues—economy, politics, business, policy, investing, technology—using compelling anecdotes from his distinguished career. And in the wake of the recent debates in Congress, Mr. Dobbs will offer his critical take on immigration issues.

Mr. Dobbs, a self-proclaimed “independent populist,” also anchors “The Lou Dobbs Financial Report,” a nationally syndicated financial news radio broadcast and writes columns for Money magazine and U.S. News & World Report. He has authored four books, most recently “Independents Day: Awakening the American Spirit” released in November 2007.

He joined CNN at its inception in 1980 as host of “Moneyline,” and left in 1999 to start Space.com, an astronomy news website. In 2001, Mr. Dobbs returned to his current position at CNN.

The award-winning journalist has received a George Foster Peabody Award for his coverage of the 1987 stock market crash and earned a Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award, among numerous other accolades in television journalism. He graduated from Harvard University with a degree in economics in 1967.
