Roger Williams University Theatre Department Presents The Freshman Plays
BRISTOL, R.I., September 2007 – A mysterious, unexpected pregnancy and a rapid-fire, comedic take on Hamlet will serve as stage fodder this fall when the Roger Williams University Theatre Department presents The Freshman Plays—“The Fifteen-Minute Hamlet” and “The Problem.”
Selected lines from Shakespeare’s tragic Hamlet turn comedic in playwright Tom Stoppard’s “The Fifteen-Minute Hamlet,”—a performance certain to have even the strictest Shakespeare enthusiasts laughing. In “The Problem,” by writer A.R. Gurney, a husband and wife who have abstained from physical relations for years must reveal their secrets to solve their pregnancy mystery.
Directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Stephanie Dean, The Freshman Plays will be held in the Performing Arts Center on the University’s Bristol campus at One Old Ferry Road. Performances will run Friday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. (Both plays run during each performance.)
Tickets cost $2 for students and $4 for general admission. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Theatre Box Office at (401) 254-3626.
