Free End-of-the-Year Choral and Ensemble Concerts Scheduled at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I., April 2008 – The Roger Williams University Department of Performing Arts will round out the academic year with two show-stopping concerts in May performed by the RWU Choir and the newly formed RWU Instrumental Ensemble.

On Monday, May 5, at 8 p.m., the RWU Choir will perform “A Night of Broadway,” which will include an array of lively contemporary Broadway showtunes including favorites from “Hairspray,” “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” “The Producers,” “Miss Saigon” and “Wicked.”

On Tuesday, May 6, at 8 p.m., the RWU Instrumental Ensemble—the University’s first concert band created this semester—will perform its inaugural concert. The 10-member ensemble includes students, faculty and staff playing flutes, clarinets, saxophone, bassoon, French horn, baritone and bass. The program will include pieces by Aaron Copland, Mozart, Stephen Foster and Vince Guaraldi’s “Linus and Lucy” from the “Peanuts” cartoons.

“It’s a potpourri program that reflects the interests of the members and that should have something for everyone,” said Catherine Hawkes, director of the ensemble and visiting assistant professor of music. “In this first concert, we will show how much we’ve accomplished in one semester and provide a fun evening for the campus community.”

The concerts will be held at the Performing Arts Center located on the University’s Bristol campus at One Old Ferry Road. Both concerts are free and open to the public. On Monday, May 5, donations from $2 to $5 will be accepted at the door to benefit the creation of the RWU choral library. For more information, call (401) 253-4164.
