Welcome to the Roger Williams University Planned Giving webpage. Here you can find useful information that can benefit you and your family as well as have a meaningful impact on the University and the students.
The Roger Williams University Legacy Society was established to honor alumni and friends who have made bequests in their will or other planned gifts in support of the University. Your gifts help ensure that Roger Williams University will continue its tradition of excellence well into the 21st century.
If you would like to become a member of the Legacy Society by including Roger Williams University in your financial or estate plans, please contact the Development Office and we will be happy to work with you and your advisors.
There are many options, but following are some of the most common ways to create a legacy gift to RWU:
One of the most common forms of planned giving is simply to include Roger Williams University in your will. If you do, please tell us. We would much prefer to thank you for the bequest in person, rather than to your executor. We'll keep the information you share with us confidential.
A life estate agreement allows you to give your home or farm to the University today, but retain the right to live in the home or use the farm for your lifetime or for those of your immediate family members.
In exchange for your gift of cash, securities, or certain types of other assets (possibly real estate or property rights), you and/or another beneficiary will receive an income for the rest of your life. A portion of the payment to you may be tax-free, or taxed at the more favorable rate for taxes on capital gains.
You can support RWU now, and leave your heirs with an inheritance that has significant tax savings if done through a trust. This option also allows for a family’s business interests to remain in place.
A charitable remainder trust lets you avoid taxes on capital gains on the sale of appreciated securities or real estate, and reduce potential estate taxes.
