When giving an outright gift or pledge, your donation can be attributed in the following ways:
The simplest and easiest gifts you can make — can be made through credit/debit card transactions, outright cash, or personal checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders made payable to Roger Williams University. Wire transfers can also be arranged through the Development Office.
Gifts of appreciated securities, stocks, and bonds may provide considerable tax advantages when transferred to RWU before they are sold. If you have held your securities for more than one year, you may find that your gift will provide a twofold tax benefit, creating an income-tax deduction as well as helping avoid the capital-gains tax that would have been due on their sale.
Gifts of real estate, including personal residences, second homes, income property, and vacant land offer a wide variety of tax and other benefits.
Gifts of personal property, including works of art, valuable collectibles, rare books, vehicles or boats in good working condition, and tangible items of demonstrable value may enable you to make a significant gift to support the University with tax benefits to you. Gifts of intangible personal property, such as copyrights, patents, and mineral rights, can also generate income for the program of your choice on a continuing basis.
Endowment gifts are especially appreciated as the interest generated from an endowment continues to provide for whatever scholarship or program it is directed towards. A minimum of $25,000 is needed to create a fully endowed fund, however, the endowment can be built over a period of time.
Matching Gifts are an easy way to double or even triple your contribution to RWU. Companies that have a matching gift program will match a percentage of your contribution to the philanthropy of your choice. Ask your company’s human resource dept. if they have this program, and if so, fill out their form and send it to the RWU Development Office with your own personal gift.
