Entry Info/Eligibility
Who is Eligible?

Registered undergraduate and graduate students, members of the faculty, staff, and administration are eligible to participate. Students who participate on an intercollegiate team may not compete in that intramural sport, unless otherwise stated in the sport description.

If a player quits or is cut from an intercollegiate team, he/she may participate provided he/she quits or was dropped before the first game. Violations of eligibility rules result in a forfeit of the contest in which the player was involved. All questions regarding player eligibility should be directed to the IM-REC Office.

How to Enter a Team

To enter an intramural team, the team captain must attend and submit an official roster at the scheduled "Captains Meeting." Registration will close after the stated deadline. Any name added to a roster after the deadline must be submitted to the IM-REC Office. Also, no names may be added after the regular season ends or during the playoffs. Individuals who wish to be placed on a team may file an individual roster form. Every effort will be made to find teams for these participants.

Conduct

Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Arguing with officials, profanity, abusive language or actions toward opponents or teammates are considered violations of good sportsmanship. Any participant displaying undesirable behavior is subject to suspension from that intramural sport activity and could face further suspension or probation during the academic year.

Student supervisors and officials assigned to games are authorized to eject players from games or to suspend immediately any game where unsportsmanlike conduct is displayed, Teams causing such problems will be placed on probation or may have to forfeit additional games on their schedule. Please keep in mind; one problem player may cause an entire team to be reprimanded.

Under no circumstances are alcoholic beverages to be consumed prior to or during intramural events. Individuals or teams violating this rule will be suspended from the intramural program for the remainder of the academic year. Intramural personnel will not hesitate to contact Roger Williams Public Safety when a participant or spectator is out of control.

Medical Care

A basic first aid kit will be provided during all intramural events. Intramural Supervisors are certified in First Aide and CPR. In case of emergency, the Intramural Supervisor can immediately contact public safety via two-way radio to request EMS to the scene of any serious injury. All individuals in the intramural program must be aware of the natural risks involved in sports activities.

It is strongly recommended that any student participating in any Intramural program offered, purchase the school insurance. This provides coverage for injuries that occur during participation in the Intramural-Recreational Sports Program.

When a Protest is Needed

All protests must be made to the officials at the time of the dispute. Details of the dispute should be written down on the back of the game's score sheet during the protest by the protesting team's captain, intramural supervisor, or officials. The officials and/or intramural supervisor are authorized to discontinue the game if the dispute cannot be resolved at that time. The protesting team's captain or a team representative must contact the IM-REC Office within 24 hours after the incident. The IM-REC Coordinator will attempt to meet with all parties involved. The IM-REC Office will render the final decision on all protests.

Awards

Championship teams and individuals will receive an "Intramural Champion" t-shirt immediately following the championship game. All special event winners will also receive awards.
