Thank you for taking the time to learn about Roger Williams University Athletics.
With the conclusion of the 2008-09 school term, Roger Williams Athletics has completed another successful year. With seven conference championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances, and a national championship, Roger Williams University Athletics enjoyed one of its best years in the history of the program. On the year, we achieved five Academic All-Americans, 13 All-New England players, 59 All-TCCC members, three Coaches of the Year, three Players of the Year, and two Rookies of the Year.

Highlighting the Hawks’ 2008-09 campaign was Cy Thompson, who earned Roger Williams’ first Sailing national championship in school history after taking the 2008 ICSA Men’s Singlehanded National Championship. His win helped spark the Sailing team to its highest national ranking in the program’s history, reaching as high as second in the country.
The Women’s Soccer and Men’s Tennis teams, two perennial Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) title contenders, ended the reign of their respective conference defending champions to bring home their first TCCC titles. Not only did both teams represent RWU at the NCAA Tournament, they each advanced to the second round of the tournament, getting their first wins in the NCAA Tournament in the history of their programs in the process.

In addition to those two teams breaking through to postseason play, The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams continued their streak of dominance in TCCC with their eighth and ninth consecutive conference championships, while Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving each earned their fourth straight TCCC title.
Guiding the department is our Interim Athletic Director, Dave Kemmy. Kemmy is in charge of directing and developing the University’s 20 athletic programs, as well as intramurals and recreational services. He takes over for former Athletic Director George Kolb, who vacated the position in February to accept the title of Assistant Vice President for Athletics Development at his alma mater, Villanova University.
“Dave Kemmy brings significant intercollegiate experience to this interim position and I am confident he will provide strong leadership,” said King.
“I’m excited and looking forward to the challenge,” said Kemmy. “I want to thank Vice President King for giving me the opportunity to continue some of the great things that are happening here. It’s a great staff and I’m looking forward to a very successful 2009-10 academic year.”
