Community Connections

The University is celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Community Connections program by adding a new component that will involve alumni across the globe.  We would like YOU to run a Community Connections service project in your own community!

The Community Connections program began in 2005 as a way to continue the orientation process for new students by providing a common service experience that actualizes commitment to service, a core value of the University and meets the real needs of organizations and individuals in the local community.

Since 2005, the University has run 4 successful programs that have contributed over 25,000 hours of service to communities in RI and southeastern MA.  Overall, service hours by RWU students have risen 51% since the Community Connections debuted - our students logged over 47,700 hours of service during the 2007/2008 academic year!

Many of you were involved in Community Connections while at RWU and we are inviting you to become a part of the program again.

How does Alumni Community Connections work?

  1. Alumni sign up as "site leaders" with the Feinstein Center.
  2. Site leaders select a non-profit agency in their area where they will serve with outher RWU alumni.
  3. Alumni site leaders work directly with the agency, determining how many volunteers are needed and what work will be done.
  4. Alumni Relations provides contact information for RWU alumni in your area and the site leader recruits them as volunteers for the day.
  5. The Feinstein Center sends site leaders our famous yellow Community Connections t-shirts for the volunteers to wear on service day.
  6. The site leader sends a summary and photos to the Feinstein Center for posting on the RWU Web site.

Being an alumni site leader allow you to strengthen your connection to RWU and to role model the core value of service to your fellow alumni and to our current student body.

The 2009 Community Connections program will take place on Monday, August 24.

If you would like to be a part of this new alumni service initiative, please contact the Feinstein Center no later than August 1, 2009 at service@rwu.edu or (401) 254-SERV.  We look forward to hearing from you!
