Application Requirements
Transfer International Students
Who is a Transfer Student?

At Roger Williams University, secondary school graduates who have completed one or more courses at another college or university are considered to be transfer students.

Determining Admissibility

If you have taken fewer than twenty-seven college credits, we will factor your secondary school record (including your SAT or ACT scores if you attended a US high school or American International School) into our decision. If you have taken twenty-seven or more credits, we will place considerable emphasis on your college record.

Students who have completed (or will have completed, prior to enrolling) a degree are not required to submit secondary school transcripts or SAT/ACT scores. Transfer students must possess the equivalent of a 'C' average on all academic work and be eligible to continue in, or return to, the institution from which they desire to transfer.

Special Application Procedures

In addition to the application procedures and requirements listed above for all international students applying to RWU, transfer students must also provide a list of courses in progress that are not listed on the transcript.

Transfer Credit Evaluation

For evaluation of credit from U.S. institutions:
Credit evaluations are mailed shortly after the offer of admission has been made.  Transfer students are asked to provide copies of course syllabi, or a college/university catalogue from each college or university attended.

For evaluation of credit from non-U.S. institutions:
Transfer students with credentials from non-U.S. institutions will be reviewed for admission by submitting all college/university official transcripts with English translations.

A transfer credit evaluation of credentials from non-U.S. institutions requires an "external" evaluation. Therefore, if you would like your non-U.S. institution credentials evaluated for transfer credit, you must submit:

  1. An official copy of your transcript with English translations.

  2. Course descriptions: These may be in the form of a college/university catalog, copies of your courses from a college/university  catalog, course syllabi, or course descriptions signed by your Professor or Dean.

This information should be as detailed as possible in order to determine and award the most appropriate transfer credit for your program at Roger Williams University.

  3. Either a check for $160 or official copies of an evaluation of your credentials by a professional international credential evaluation company: RWU offers transfer students with non-U.S. institution credentials the option of having RWU coordinate the evaluation through an "external" professional evaluation company for a $160 fee that is refundable if you enroll at Roger Williams University ($160 will be credited to your RWU account).

You will receive an official copy of the evaluation, which is an extremely valuable document to carry. OR you may choose to pursue an "external" evaluation on your own through a professional evaluation company, such as World Evaluation Services, http://www.wes.org/.

In some cases, RWU may be able to conduct an "internal" evaluation.  If you would like to submit your official transcript, English translations, course descriptions, program outline, and school profile (credit system, hours, etc.).

If you have been accepted to RWU, we will be happy to take a look at your documents and determine if an "external" evaluation is necessary before you pursue an "external" evaluation.

For all evaluations

Evaluation of courses is based on several factors:

  1. Courses are compared as they relate in depth and content to those offered at RWU.

  2. Courses with grades lower than 'C' will not transfer.

  3. The University does not factor transferred credits into your GPA at RWU. All courses are applied to your program of study in accordance with curricular requirements.

Maximum applied credits:

  • A maximum of 60 credits may be applied from a two-year college.
  • A maximum of 75 credits may be applied from a four-year college.
  • A maximum of 90 credits may be applied if the student has completed their baccalaureate degree.
  • The overall number of courses needed for a degree may exceed 120 credits.
