Financial Aid
For U.S. Citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents Only

What is the application process?

Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Federal Processor after January 1st. The suggested deadline is March 15th. The Roger Williams University Title IV code # is 003410. Students are strongly urged to complete the FAFSA online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

Keep in mind that each year you will required to complete a FAFSA form and may also be asked to provide the Financial Aid Office with a copy of your previous year's tax return including all schedules. All graduate/professional students are considered to be of independent status. Parents' financial information is not considered when determining eligibility for federal student aid. Students must have completed or submitted the following to be considered for aid:

  • The FAFSA  - http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
  • The RWU Data Sheet
  • Submit copy of full acceptance letter into a Master's program

What are student loans?
Student loan programs provide the majority of funding for students in pursuit of a graduate degree. There are three types of loans that allow you to borrow up to your cost attendance and enter repayment six to nine months after graduation.

  • The FFEL (Federal Family Education Loan) Stafford Loan Program provides students with an attractive, low interest loan. A graduate student is eligible for $18,500 annually in Stafford Loan funds. Students must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility.

  • Private loans such as those offered by the Access Group, Rhode Island Student Loan Authority, and Key Education Resources. These loans are meant to fill the gap between your Federal Stafford loans and your total cost of attendance. Each program has different terms and eligibility requirements. A satisfactory credit history is essential in order to participate in any private loan program. Students must be taking a minimum of 6 credits in a term to qualify for each of these loan types.

  • Comprehensive Access Loan (see below).

What if I need a loan and attend less than half time or I am not fully accepted into a program?
Access Group offers a loan to students who find themselves in this situation. This loan is called the Comprehensive Access Loan. Information about this loan can be found on their website: http://www.accessgroup.org/.
