Bridging the World Scholarship

Students applying to RWU-sponsored programs are eligible to apply for “Bridging the World” study abroad scholarships. Students pursuing individual or independent study abroad programs are not eligible for these scholarships.

Some scholarship funding is available exclusively based on academic performance; other funding is based on a combination of academic merit and financial need.

You need only submit one application in order to be considered for the “Bridging the World” study abroad scholarships. You may receive no more than one award.

All awards are competitive!

To be considered, submit your scholarship application before the deadline(s) outlined below.

The committee reviews all applications, including essays and awards scholarships within 30 days of the deadline.

If you withdraw from a program for any reason (voluntary or involuntary), any award you may have received will be revoked. If your award is revoked after funds have been disbursed to your account, your account will be debited and you will be billed accordingly.

Type and Criteria of Awards

1. Awards based on ACADEMIC MERIT ONLY
   If you have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better, you may be eligible for the merit-only scholarship. A high GPA does not guarantee an award. The quality of the required essay is critical. Your application for a merit-only award must include a 400-word essay describing how study abroad will help you reach your academic, professional and personal goals. Your essay will be scored on both its content and the quality of writing.
2. Awards based on FINANCIAL NEED and ACADEMIC MERIT
   If you have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better and have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the year you wish to study abroad, you may qualify for the combination need and merit award. Your application must include a 400-word essay describing how study abroad will help you reach your academic, professional and personal goals. Your essay will be scored on both its content and the quality of writing.

AWARD AMOUNTS range from $500 - $1,500.
