The University Honors Program provides a social and academic community for intellectually talented students who seek opportunities that enhance their classroom and co-curricular experience.
Matriculating freshmen who meet exacting criteria for academic excellence are invited into the University Honors program. Candidates are selected from the pool of applicants who have attained SAT scores of at least 1250; who have earned cumulative high school averages of at least B+ in major subjects; and who rank in the top fifth of their graduating class. The University also considers the numbers of honors and advanced placement courses taken in high school, academic honors, and extra-curricular activities.
Honors students participate with the director in developing their course of study and the program's social and cultural activities. Students enroll in designated University courses that parallel the requirements taken by other Roger Williams University students and emphasize intellectual achievement, initiative, and creativity. Special sections of the core curriculum in the first two years of study are complemented by a unique junior year service experience that Honors students encounter in teams. In their senior year Honors students conduct a research project and host an academic festival in the spring semester that showcases their scholarship. An Honors residence hall provides housing, offices, activities, and seminar space.
Diplomas awarded to Honors students, as well as their transcripts, indicate that they have completed this exacting and rewarding program. For further information contact Peter Deekle (401) 254-3063.
