Community Connections
For Students

Community Connections Day 2008 will take place on August 25th!

Dear New Student,

Here at RWU we take pride in our community involvement, which is why we began the Community Connections program. As you will learn throughout orientation, "CC08" is a day-long service project that involves the entire freshman class and hundreds of upperclassmen students, faculty and staff members at various sites throughout RI and southeastern MA.
Here is a little insight into what to expect on August 25th:

  • You will receive your yellow Community Connections t-shirt when you check in on move in day - make sure you wear it on Monday!
  • Your shirt label will tell you what group you are in, what time your breakfast seating is, and any special details related to your volunteer site (i.e. wear long pants, bring sunscreen, etc.)  DO NOT REMOVE THE LABEL!!!!
  • You will have breakfast with your group and head out for a day of service alongside your peers and a faculty/staff/upperclassman site leader.
  • You won't need to bring any belongings with you that day; we will provide everything that you will need. Just bring yourself, and be ready to volunteer!

This program is designed to help you connect with your new classmates and your new home.  We hope you take advantage of this great opportunity to jump into your college experience and start becoming an active member of the RWU and local communities.

Every year, we have students who participated in the program the previous year becoming site leaders for the new incoming freshmen—attesting to how fun and rewarding this program is!  This will be my fourth year with Community Connections.  I take pride in how the program has grown since it started when I was a freshman!  My name is Roey Brocuglio, and I am one of the Student Coordinators for CC08.  I will be a Senior this year, double majoring in Visual Arts and Elementary Education.  In addition to Community Connections, I also volunteer for the Autism Project of Rhode Island, Beacon Hospice, and I am a member of the Student Volunteer Association and Scholarships for Service!  Say hi if you see me around campus—I’ll be one of the ‘red shirts’ on August 25th! “ TAKE TIME TO BE KIND!”

Again, welcome to RWU and we look forward to seeing you in August!  Don't forget to click on the Community Connections Photo Gallery link to look at pictures from CC'07, CC'06, and CC'05!
