English as a Second Language Program

The RWU ESL Bridge Program offers accepted RWU advanced-level ESL students appropriate ESL courses in addition to their academic courses, along with special ESL tutoring in preparation for taking a full-time academic course load.

The primary objective of the RWU ESL Bridge Program is to develop the student's ability to speak, read, and write clearly and effectively in preparation for further study at the college level.

Highlights include:

  • Small classes, which create an ideal learning environment
  • Focus on advanced composition
  • Support for the academic courses, which includes assistance with lecture material, discussions, and assignments
  • New ESL computer lab with Computer Assisted Language Learning programs incorporated into the curriculum
  • Individualized language study assistance and academic advising arranged as needed
  • Conversation Partners Program
  • Well-qualified native English speaking instructors who hold graduate degrees and have many years of experience teaching English as a Second Language

This program is for non-native English speaking students interested in RWU's undergraduate program with a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) greater than 500 Paper/173 Computer and less than 550/213 or who have completed level 109 at an ELS Language Center.
