ELS Language Centers at Roger Williams University offers the opportunity for international and non-native English speaking students to improve their English language skills- for students before beginning an undergraduate or graduate degree program at RWU OR for students who just wish to improve their English skills. |
Because ELS Language Centers is located on the Roger Williams University campus, ELS Language Center students become a part of the RWU community right away. ELS Language Center students may choose to live on campus in student residence halls, take their meals in the campus cafeteria, and they also have full access to all Roger Williams University facilities.
ELS Language Centers offers several programs to help students improve their English depending on their individual goals.
Intensive English Program
The ELS Language Center Intensive English Program is for students who wish to master English so they may pursue a degree at an American college or university. This program is specifically designed to help students improve their English skills in the shortest time possible and to fully prepare for university study in the U.S.
Highlights:
- Thirty, 50-minute lessons each week: 10 lessons of general English per week; 10 lessons of reading and writing per week;10 elective lessons per week for Levels 104-112, or 5 lessons per week in conversation and 5 lessons per week in multi-media lab for Levels 101-103
- 13 start dates each year allow students to begin every month
- 12 levels of instruction from Beginners to Masters
- Course length is 4 weeks per level
- Maximum class size: 15 in Structure/Speaking Practice and Conversation and 20 in Electives and Reading/Writing classes
Semi-Intensive Program
The ELS Semi-Intensive English Program is for students who wish to improve their English skills while exploring the USA.
Highlights:
- Twenty, 50-minute lessons each week:10 lessons of general English per week; 10 elective lessons per week for Levels 104-112, or 5 lessons per week in conversation and 5 lessons per week in multi-media lab for Levels 101-103
- 13 start dates each year allow students to begin every month
- 2 levels of instruction from Beginners to Masters
- Course length is 4 weeks per level
- Maximum class size: 15 in Structure/Speaking Practice and Conversation and 20 in Electives and Reading/Writing classes
For ELS Language Center Students Interested In Enrolling At RWU
If you are a student who wants to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree at Roger Williams University, then the ELS Language Center Intensive English Program will provide you with the skills and confidence you need to succeed. RWU will accept an ELS Language Center certificate in place of the TOEFL score and you may apply for admission before leaving your country through the ELS University Placement Service. If you meet all the entrance requirements except English proficiency, you can receive a "Conditional Acceptance", granting you admission to Roger Williams University after you complete the required level with ELS Language Center.
Students who complete ELS Level 112 in the Intensive English Program meet the English language proficiency for full admission to the University for undergraduate and graduate studies without having to attend the RWU ESL Bridge Program. The TOEFL requirement will be waived.
Students who complete ELS Level 109 in the Intensive English Program meet the English language proficiency for admission to the RWU ESL Bridge Program and the TOEFL requirement will be waived.
