Chiefs' Roundtable Discussion

Chief Ross Atstupenas, Blackstone (MA) Police Department; Chief Brian Sullivan, Lincoln (RI) Police Department; and Chief Mark Chase, Center Harbor (ME) Police Department fielded questions posed by the class during the New England Association of Chief of Police Roundtable.

Rounding out the graduation, class speaker Corporal Matthew Jones urged his class mates "to return to their departments ready, willing, and able to patiently but persistently implement the tools and leadership tactics they'd learned here. Don't throw your binders away. Do refer to them from time to time. Always remind yourself of what you wanted in your sergeant when you were a patrol officer, and frequently ask yourself if you are meeting those expectations. We've all seen the person who goes away to a professional training only to return no different from when he or she left. Make a vow that this will not be you... (To the administrators in attendance) You would implore us to be owners, not renters, no doubt. So how do we all willingly become owner vs. renter? We, the corporals and sergeants, have to feel like we have a stake in it all. And my respectful request to you, the chiefs and upper level managers, is to keep us in the know. Pick our brains. Ask our opinions."
