School Of Education

The School of Education at Roger Williams University is committed to helping you grow into a caring, competent educator.

The School offers undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education and Secondary Education, and Master's Degree programs in Elementary Education and Literacy Education. Our three-tiered program ensures that you'll gain both the depth and breadth of knowledge necessary to meet the challenges of today's diverse classroom:

  • Your classes in educational theory and history, cognitive psychology, and philosophy will be complemented by expert instruction in "best practices" in teaching.

  • You'll work toward a particular level of expertise in a subject of your choosing by selecting a second major in the arts and sciences within the Feinstein College of Arts and Sciences.

  • Finally, you'll be given the opportunity to apply your new skills in the field. You'll assist in classrooms, conduct case studies, tutor individual students, participate in planning and professional development activities with cooperating teachers, and teach lessons within a unit of instruction that you have developed.

You'll be exposed to the latest educational trends, developments, and theories. You'll attend classes, workshops, and seminars that examine the growing role of technology in modern education, work on original research projects that investigate the challenges facing public schools today, and visit local classrooms to observe the positive influences that a dedicated teacher can have in the life of a child.

You'll learn from experienced RWU faculty members who are in the forefront of their fields. Like you, they're committed to making a positive contribution to our educational system. With their help, and with the skills you acquire here, you'll learn how you can make a difference and be a future teacher leader.
