Community

Suha Ozkan, Secretary General of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, recently described the School as "a haven of plurality". It is difficult to imagine a more compelling conception of our community than this, nor a higher ideal to strive for in the future.
Celebrating mutual influences among the wide-ranging identities of students and faculty architects, artists, preservationists and historians who have gathered here from around the world; varied ideas about creativity, conservation and history among our programs; multiple conceptions of our social and professional responsibilities all help us to strengthen the character and the scope of the School.
We have extended the reach of our community increasingly in interdisciplinary activities, and have crossed school boundaries to join the University community, local and regional professions, and the global context in the spirit of the University's motto, "Learning to Bridge the World". These include special study trips regularly taken up by faculty and students which have included sponsored trips to Barcelona, Madrid, Mexico City, New York, Paris and Washington, as well as more local destinations.
Students have also established strong organizations through the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), the Art Society, and the Historic Preservation Society, which receive strong support from the School and the University. The Architecture program has recently evolved a 2005/06 Architecture Studio Culture Policy which better supports students and faculty interaction.
