Gabelli School of Business Students network among various Financial Centers
The CAFÉ along with an assortment of business contacts associated through the Gabelli School of Business have set up several school trips which allowed business students to gain a broader understanding of both domestic and global capital markets.
New York Financial District
In the spring semester of 2004, a group of twelve finance students along with two faculty members toured New York’s financial district. On this trip, students were awarded the opportunity of touring various sites such as the New York Stock Exchange, New York Mercantile Exchange, Museum of Financial Art, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
The trip was led by Dr. Michael Melton of the Gabelli School of Business, where he was able to share his expertise of the financial markets in educating the students further about the behind the scenes work of Wall Street. Students were able to witness, first hand, the open market operations that drive today’s markets.
Dublin, Ireland / London, England / Paris, France
During the winter intercession of 2004-2005, ten business students from the Gabelli School of Business traveled to Europe for a guided tour of financial markets overseas. This unique experience allowed students to learn how various foreign companies and markets conduct operations under different environments.
In Dublin students witnessed how one company such as Guinness can impact an entire country’s economy. In London and Paris, students were able to observe the similarities and differences between their major exchanges and those in America. The students observed how the French government regulates business and the Paris Stock Exchange.
A visit to the London Stock Exchange peaked interest in the similarities to that of the NASDAQ. Lastly, students learned of how a devalued dollar against the Euro and British Pound has impacted trade. This trip was made available through the generosity of the Dean of the Gabelli School of Business, Maling Ebrahimpour and Dr. Michael Melton.
