What kind of computer do I need to run the ALEKS on-line placement test program?
The technical requirements for ALEKS can be found at http://www.aleks.com/support/system_requirements
Please use the information that is given for the Highed version of ALEKS.
Can I use any internet browser to run the ALEKS on-line placement test program?
Many students have found that the AOL web-browser is too slow and unstable to allow them to successfully complete their tests. We recommend that you use Netscape or Internet Explorer as your Internet browser.
Do I need any special software to be installed on my computer?
To run the ALEKS on-line test, your computer needs to have two applications already installed: JAVA 1.4.1_07 and a special ALEKS plug-in.
If you don’t have this version of JAVA installed on your computer, you can visit the JAVA web-site http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.4.1_07/index.html and download the application for free.
The ALEKS plug-in will install itself during the registration process. You can refer to the Registration links on this web-site for details about registering for your specific placement test. In addition, you can follow the directions at http://www.aleks.com/support that pertain to downloading the plug-in.
Do I have to pay to get ALEKS on-line technical support?
No. There is no charge for technical support. They are available 9-5pm (Pacific Time) at support@aleks.com
What happens if I lose my Internet connection in the middle of my test?
If you lose your Internet connection or must interrupt your testing session, you can safely re-enter at another time. To do this, you must return to the ALEKS homepage at www.aleks.com and use the LOGIN and PASSWORD that you were given when you registered. This information will allow you to access your ALEKS account and will return you to where you left off in the last session.
Each time that you register for a different test in the ALEKS system, you will be given a new LOGIN and a PASSWORD. Please remember to print this page of information in the event that you do lose your Internet connection or wish to interrupt your testing session. If you re-enter as a new user, you must start the test from the very beginning again.
