What is the format of the retest?
The retest uses the same ALEKS on-line format as the RWU Math Placement Test that students took in the spring.
When can a student retest?
The retesting code will be active from Sunday, July 13 until Wednesday, July 16 at midnight (Eastern Time).
Warning
Retests taken after midnight, July 16 will not be considered for the fall semester.
How does a retester find out the results of his/her retest?
After completing his/her retest, the retester should contact Patricia Confort, FCAS Placement Coordinator via email at pconfort@rwu.edu. After reviewing the results, she will contact the retester about any changes in placement.
If the retest improves a student’s placement, how does the student get a different math course for the fall semester?
The Placement Coordinator, Patricia Confort, will change the student’s math course for the fall semester so that the new course is in his/her schedule. Such students will be able to review their new schedule in MyRWU a few days after they have been contacted by Ms. Confort.
What options are available to students who do not improve their placement by retesting?
If a student’s placement does not change, he/she will stay in the course that was scheduled at Orientation. We recommend that such students take advantage of this opportunity to reinforce their skills.
Should a student study before taking the retest?
YES! If a student does not study, his/her retest results should be the same as the results of the original placement test. Please refer to the link titled “Study recommendations for Retesting” for more information.
Are students required to take a retest?
No. Students who believe that the results of their placement test have placed them in the appropriate course are not required to retest.
However, for students who believe that placement test has not placed them in a course, the only way to move up in the sequence is to retest.
If the retest results move a student too far up in the sequence, can he/she choose to take a lower course?
Yes. Students can request that the Placement Coordinator change their schedule to include a course that is lower than their new placement.
