Who should retake the chemistry placement retest?
Any student who feels that the results of their initial testing did not provide an accurate assessment of their true knowledge of chemistry should retest. Any students who were advised to defer CHEM 191 should consider retesting. In addition, students who did not test in May but are now interested in majors that require chemistry should take the retest.
Should students study before they retake the chemistry placement test?
Yes. From experience we know that students who do not study before they retest, do not improve their placement.
We recommend that students review their notes from the high school chemistry course that they took. In addition, they can ask their high schools if they can borrow a textbook and/or purchase a review text on-line. Local libraries often have chemistry textbooks available as well.
RWU does not have any specific study materials that it recommends for retest preparation.
Is the chemistry placement retest also an on-line test?
Yes. Students can access the retest 24/7 from their home computers. The web-link is below.
When do students take the chemistry placement retest?
The retest will be live from Sunday July 13 until midnight Wednesday July 16.
How do students learn if they improved their chemistry placement?
Upon completion of the retest, students should email Patricia Confort, FCAS Placement Coordinator at pconfort@rwu.edu. She will review their retest results and determine if there has been a change in placement. She will inform the students of their results via email.
How does a student’s fall schedule change if his/her chemistry placement changes?
If a student improves his/her chemistry placement, Patricia Confort, FCAS Placement Coordinator will change his/her schedule for the fall semester to include the new course. When the changes are made, she will direct the student (via email) to review his/her new schedule in MyRWU on the Roger Williams University web-site.
