Chemistry Placement Process
When is chemistry placement determined?

Prior to a student’s arrival on campus for June Orientation, all new students with majors that require such testing should have completed the on-line chemistry placement test.  The results of this test are used to determine placement into the chemistry sequence.

When are students informed of their chemistry placement?

Students are given their placement results at Orientation.  They will also receive a schedule that includes the chemistry course that they placed into based on their spring on-line testing.

What if a student feels that the spring on-line placement testing was not an accurate assessment of his/her knowledge in the area of chemistry?

Students in this situation are given an opportunity to retake their on-line chemistry placement test in July, before they return to RWU for the fall semester.  If their results improve, their schedules will be changed so that they can be enrolled into the appropriate higher-level courses. This takes place prior to August 1 so that these students have an opportunity to buy the appropriate textbook(s) for their new courses.

What if a student feels overwhelmed by the level of his/her chemistry course in the fall semester?

There is a two-week period in the beginning of each semester during which students may add and drop courses.  Such students should speak with their faculty advisor and/or lecture instructors prior to adding or dropping courses during this enrollment period.
