The Middle School Endorsement is a three-course sequence for licensed teachers leading to endorsement in the state of Rhode Island as a middle school teacher (grades 5-8) in one of the following content areas: Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies or Foreign Languages. Teacher candidates in Elementary Education at both the undergraduate and graduates levels and Secondary Education at the undergraduate level, as well as certified Elementary or Secondary school teachers are eligible for this program and the resulting certification. Candidates must have completed at least 21 semester hours in the content areas of Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies or Foreign Languages.
The program consists of nine credits of course work and a supervised field experience in a middle school. Students may begin the sequence in any term, but the courses should be taken in the following order:
