Mr. DeMello is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and has been an instructor for American Safety Programs and Training since 2006. Mr. DeMello has over 21 years of firefighting and emergency medical service experience. As a member of the North Providence Fire Department for 16 years, he held numerous positions in the fire suppression, fire prevention, training, and EMS divisions, retiring in 2011.
Mr. DeMello now serves as Director of Emergency Medical Services, and Deputy Emergency Management Director, for the Town of South Kingstown, RI. South Kingstown EMS is a career organization providing paramedic service to 64 square miles, including the University of Rhode Island. In addition, Mr. DeMello serves as an Assistant Fire Chief for the Bristol, RI Fire Department, which is a combination department that responds to over 3,000 calls per year.
Mr. DeMello has instructed in various areas of emergency services for over 13 years, holding licensure as a RI EMS Instructor Coordinator, Instructor status for AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, ACLS-EP courses, and other EMS related programs. Mr. DeMello also maintains pro-board certification as a Fire Instructor, Fire Inspector, and instructs various other firefighting related programs.
In 2013 he was re-appointed by Governor Chafee to the RI Ambulance Service Advisory Board representing the RI State Fireman’s League for another 5 year term. Mr. DeMello belongs to various committees and is the chairman of the Education Standards Committee of the Ambulance Service Advisory Board.
