The Roger Williams University Community Partnerships Center (CPC) delivers project-based design and preservations services to organizations and municipalities in local and regional communities. Community partnerships broaden and deepen the academic experiences of RWU students by allowing them to work on real-world projects, collaborating with residents and citizens.
CPC projects often focus on architectural and urban design and historic preservation, and the Center is housed in the School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation, which has a solid foundation of project-based community outreach. In a true collaborative model, the Center is able to draw upon the diverse talents of RWU programs in law, business, construction management, engineering, environmental science, community development, the arts and many others.
The Center provides RWU students at the undergraduate and graduate levels with meaningful educational experiences at appropriate moments in their academic careers. The service-learning nature of student work is strengthened because CPC projects are carried out to address real community needs. Coursework, team projects, scholarships, internships, externships and potential job opportunities aid in exposing students to off-campus experiences working collaboratively with community members.
The CPC provides valuable services to communities through work with client organizations, government agencies and viable, committed community organizations as they seek to achieve their missions. The services provided by the CPC would normally not be available to these organizations due to their cost or complexity.
