Bachelor of Science in Marketing

The Marketing major focuses on the many aspects of marketing and the ways in which organizations administer and control their resources to achieve marketing objectives. Courses emphasize the dynamic nature of marketing in a global economy and the need for organizations to be consumer oriented.

Students are encouraged to register for at least one marketing internship as part of their elective courses. Internships and special topics courses may be repeated for additional academic credit.

Degree Requirements
In addition to satisfying the University Core Curriculum requirements, marketing majors must complete one two tracks: Marketing Communications or Marketing Analysis.

** This requirement may also be fulfilled by BUSN 210 – Business Statistics. Students who complete a Core Concentration in Psychology may substitute PSYCH 240 Quantitative Analysis for the MATH 124 requirement.

International Dimension Course:
In order to insure that School of Business graduates have taken coursework focusing on the global business environment, all business majors are required to take at least one of the following courses:

This requirement is waived for students who have had a study-abroad experience for which the student earned 3 or more college-level credit hours.

Marketing Communications Track
Students enrolled in the Marketing Communications track take the following additional courses:

MRKT 301 Advertising Principles  

one of the following three courses:

MRKT 302 Advertising Campaigns  
MRKT 360 Marketing on the Web (cross-listed as CIS 360)
MRKT 469 Marketing Internship  
and
Five Marketing (MRKT) electives

Marketing Analysis Track
Students enrolled in the Marketing Analysis track take the following additional courses:

MRKT 305 Marketing Research  
MRKT 315 Qualitative Marketing Research  
and
Five Marketing (MRKT) electives

One of the five Marketing Electives required of either track should be a Senior Business Experience. This requirement can be satisfied in one of four ways: MRKT 420 (Marketing Seminar), BUSN 435 (Small Business Institute), MRKT 469 Marketing Internship, or an independent study. Students should consult with their advisors and marketing professors to determine the appropriate senior experience.
