Winner of the 2010 Mark Gould Award for Commitment to Student Learning,  Dr. Shelton believes the best learning comes from doing. She brings real world projects into the classroom with the primary goal to produce professional public relations practitioners.  Her passion lies in working one-on-one with students. Every student leaves each of her courses with a solid theoretical base, but also with something tangible for the job market.

Dr. Shelton also has significant experience in television news, working for local affiliates of the New York Times, Meredith Corporation, Tribune Corporation, LIN-TV and FOX News Corp.

Dr. Shelton has been awarded a Fulbright Grant for Spring 2014.  She will be teaching in the Slovak Republic. Her Research will focus on Corporate Academic Relationships.

Student Engagement:

In addition to teaching, Dr. Shelton has written several papers with students, which have been published in peer reviewed journals.  She is also the RWU PRSSA advisor leading the chapter to three honorable mentions (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013) in the prestigious Bateman Competition, with a Third Place achievement in 2010. This is in addition to the Second Place win (2005) and honorable mention (2006) PRSSA achieved under her leadership at Texas State University.  The RWU Chapter of PRSSA  has also chosen to present at the 2009, 2012, and 2013 National PRSSA conferences.

Unique Experiences:

Dr. Shelton has taught courses in Poland, and Germany and has traveled with students to Washington DC, L.A., San Diego, San Francisco, Atlanta, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Salt Lake Lake City, and other places.  She travels with students in a capacity of a teacher, scholar and adviser.
