The University Writing Program
The Writing Program supports the mission of the University by enhancing students’ abilities to articulate critical analyses and sound arguments. The program maintains that this ability is crucial to the student’s academic and lifelong success, since understanding and constructing arguments is at the foundation of both scholastic endeavors and those the student engages in as a citizen and professional. The program sets appropriate performance-based standards to ensure that students incorporate those skills integral to writing cogent arguments.
Incoming freshmen who need additional support gaining academic literacy may be required to complete WTNG 100 – Introduction to Academic Writing, with a grade of C- or higher.
The University Core Curriculum writing requirement is fulfilled by successfully (grade of C- or higher) completing the following:
- WTNG 102: Expository Writing
and one of:
- WTNG 200: Critical Writing for the Humanities and the Social Sciences
or
- WTNG 210: Critical Writing for the Sciences
or
- WTNG 220: Critical Writing for the Professions

- WTNG 200 is taken by majors in:

- WTNG 210 is taken by majors in:
Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Marine Biology
- WTNG 220 is taken by majors in:
Business, Communications, Justice Studies, Engineering, Graphic Design, Mathematics
