Marketing
The Marketing Major

The marketing major focuses on the many aspects of marketing and the ways in which organizations administer and control their resources to achieve marketing objectives. Courses emphasize the dynamic nature of marketing in a global economy and the need for organizations to be consumer oriented. Students are encouraged to register for at least one marketing internship as part of their elective courses. Internships and special topics courses may be repeated for additional academic credit.

Degree Requirements
In addition to satisfying the University Core Curriculum and Business Core requirements, marketing majors must complete one of the following two tracks: Marketing Communications or Marketing Analysis.

Marketing Communications Track
MRKT           301               Advertising Principles
and one of the following three courses:
MRKT           302               Advertising Campaigns
MRKT           360               Marketing on the Web
                                         (cross-listed as CIS 360)
MRKT           469               Marketing Internship
Five Marketing (MRKT) electives
Electives: Five courses (1 course must be Economics, CIS or a non-business elective)

Marketing Analysis Track
MRKT           305              Marketing Research
MRKT           315              Qualitative Marketing Research
Five Marketing (MRKT) electives
Electives: Five courses (1 course must be Economics, CIS or a non-business elective)

One of the five Marketing Electives required of either track should be a Senior Business Experience. This requirement can be satisfied in one of 4 ways: MRKT 420 (Marketing Seminar), MGMT 435 (Small Business Institute), MRKT 469 Marketing Internship, or an independent study. Students should consult with their advisors and marketing professors to determine the appropriate senior experience.

The Marketing Minor

The marketing minor introduces students to marketing concepts and the organization, analysis, strategy, tactics, and resources required to apply that knowledge in profit and non-profit situations. Internships and Special Topics courses may be repeated.
