The Roger Williams University Center for Economic and Environmental Development (CEED) was established in 1997 to encourage innovative methods for environmental education and stewardship by involving students, faculty and the local community in outreach efforts, strategic environmental management and entrepreneurship for a sustainable environment.

The mission of CEED includes:

  1. Emphasis on environmental monitoring, marine science and technology, commercial and recreational fishing, aquaculture, tourism, boat building and marina development and expansion.

  2. Promoting, stimulating and conducting timely and significant research that bears directly on limitations to the growth of the region’s marine economy.

  3. Providing structural and administrative support to RWU faculty and students engaged in applied research on specific topics relating to the marine economy.

  4. Facilitating the delivery of innovative degree programs and professional certificates in aquaculture, marine biology, environmental science and related fields of study.
