Academic Support Programs
It's ALL about Time!

This session will start by looking at a day in the life of two college students and how they spend their time. Questions addressed in this session include: What are optimal study times in a day? How can I manage my time better? How do I keep up with assignments? How can I make the most of non-class time? How do I get organized? Time management is a major challenge for all students -- freshmen, in particular. We encourage freshmen to attend this session.

What's Your Study Strategy?

This important session will highlight a variety of note-taking methods and test-preparation strategies. Students will explore skills to maximize their study efforts. Reading strategies will be presented including ideas for marking a textbook appropriately, creating chapter summaries and boosting comprehension through reviewing class and textbook notes on a regular basis. An important session for freshmen!

Are You Ready for Academic Advisement?

Co-presented by the Student Advocacy Office, this workshop will focus on the advisor's role and a student's responsibility in the advisement process. This program will highlight the key factors students need to know about as Advisement Week approaches.   Students will also receive vital information on registration procedures. In addition, we will highlight University graduation requirements and what a student must do to meet all requirements in four years.

Transfer Student Info Session

Welcome, transfer students, to Roger Williams University. The goal of this session is to introduce transfer students to the many resources available to them on the Roger Williams University campus. The sessions will also focus on specific questions and concerns for the transfer population. Knowing the resources and getting connected will help transfers become familiar with and settled on the Roger Williams campus.

Are You Undeclared?

According to the RWU Undergraduate Catalog, "full-time students are required to declare a major by the third semester." During this collaborative program, the Career Center will share tips and ideas to consider when choosing a major. Self-assessment testing tools will be highlighted including the online assessment called "Do What You Are." This program will provide students with the opportunity to focus on their career paths and interests leading them to a declared major. This session is also valuable for students with a declared major who are exploring various career opportunities within their fields.

Surviving the End of the Semester

Four weeks and counting to the last day of final exams! How will you get "it" all done? Just what does "it" include? This session will share tips and strategies for organizing your time, optimizing your study strategies and staying focused. Especially important for freshmen! It's not always the SMART students who end up with the positive results on papers and tests. The ORGANIZED student who manages time well and stays on top of details and tasks is more likely to succeed! Please join us!
