Permits

All student permits expire 7/31/2023. Permit sales begin August 1, 2023 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Department of Public Safety Traffic Control Office will issue parking permits for a fee of $175.00 to authorized individuals. All undergraduate student permits will be picked up from either the Rec Center during check in OR the main entrance of the University from the office of Parking and Transportation. You must have your ID and vehicle registration with you. All Graduate, Law and Employee permits will be sent directly to your local address. DO NOT USE 1 OLD FERRY RD or 10 METACOM AVE

A Parking Permit will be obtained upon completion of a web-based parking permit application. Undergraduate students will be limited to one active permit. Parking permits must be renewed on a yearly basis.

Resident freshman students are not authorized to have or operate vehicles on campus at anytime. All first year students are considered freshman regardless of academic standing.

Applicants For Permits

Persons applying for a parking permit must have a valid driver's license. The vehicle for which a permit application is submitted must have a valid registration, liability insurance, and a current safety inspection sticker, as required by the state in which the vehicle is registered.

A university official may request verification/inspection of these documents at any time. A valid photo ID and vehicle registration must be provided in order to pick up a permit. Permits are unique to each vehicle and are therefore non-transferable.

Beginning August 1 you can purchase your permit. Permits will be available for pick up from the main entrance (Under graduate students ONLY all others will be shipped directly to you) usually the next business day.  Print off your receipt and place on your dash until you are able to obtain your permit.  At the beginning of the academic year, permits for undergraduate students only will be available at the Rec Center during check in.  See the procedure below.

Permit Required: All cars parked on the Roger Williams University campus (including off campus housing at Almeida and Baypoint) that are owned or operated by employees or students of the University must be properly registered, insured, and have a parking permit affixed permanently to the outside lower left corner of the windshield (driver’s side). All cars without valid parking permits or permits not properly displayed may be cited and fined at least $100.00 and/or towed at owner/operator expense.

All registered undergraduate students, (with the exception of resident freshmen), are limited to one active permit.  Please note that there is a $175.00 fee for each vehicle permit which can be paid for by credit/debit card or billed to your account.  If you are replacing a windshield, replacing a car on file with a new car or you receive a warning that your vehicle is already in the system, please notify the traffic control office at parking@rwu.edu  before you apply for a new permit.  After invalidating your old permit, you will be allowed to apply for another permit.  There is no charge for a replacement permit due to window replacement or new  vehicle replacing an existing vehicle that has already been registered during the academic year.

Application Procedures

  1. At the website choose the ‘Log in’ located in the top right section of the webpage. Select ‘Affiliated Log in’.  Log in using your RWU Portal user name and password.  If you are having difficulties you can contact the RWU Help Desk at extension 6363.
  2. Once the page is loaded you will see: You have been authorized to purchase a permit. Please read the instructions on each page carefully!!!. Press the NEXT button.
  3. The page will load and you will see, “Select Permit and Permit agreement >>”.  You must select the permit being applied for and check ALL the boxes agreeing to follow the rules and regulations.  Go to the Public Safety Parking page for the most up to date rules and regulations) then press the Next button. **** Please check to make sure you are ordering the correct permit!!!  If you are a Commuter it will say “Permit 24CS”, Residents living in any University housing (Almieda, Baypoint, Bayside, Cedar, Maple, North Campus Residence Hall, Stonewall) will say “Permit 24RS”.  Please DO NOT ORDER if the permit is incorrect but contact parking@rwu.edu so that it can be corrected.****
  4. You may only purchase one permit.  Select the vehicle that is currently on your record that you want to use with your permit.  If you need to add new vehicles, choose "Add Vehicle" below. (If the plate is correct but you have a new vehicle, you can order for the plate and edit the info afterwards through the link at the top of the page that says “Vehicles’). When finished, click Next >>
  5. Verify your email to send you the status and click on ‘NEXT’.
  6. At this point you will see, “Below are the items in your cart. Select your method of payment and click Pay Now to proceed with your payment or return to add citations to your cart”.  If there are any unpaid fines on your account you must add them to the cart.  Press PAY NOW.
  7. Your Payment information will appear.  Once you verify check the box for that you have read and understand the above. Again press PAY NOW
  8. Payment Receipt will appear.  Please print it and use as a temporary permit and display on your front dashboard (drivers side) until you can pick up your permit from the main office, or from a location determined by the Parking Office.  An email confirmation will be sent. 

Receiving your Parking Permit

Undergraduate students, during the beginning of the school year, your permit will be available to you during check in.  After check in is over your permit will be available the next business day from the main gate information center.  Please note you MUST bring a copy of your vehicle registration and proper ID to pick up your parking permit from the main entrance of the University.  The parking office is open from 8:30A-4P Monday thru Friday. All faculty and staff are required to have a valid permit attached permanently to the outside lower left corner of the windshield (driver’s side). Faculty and staff are not limited to one permit and may apply for additional vehicles if needed.  If you are replacing a windshield or replacing a car on file with a new car (same license plate), please notify the parking and transportation office at extension x3703 or email to parking@rwu.edu before you apply for a new permit.  After invalidating your old permit, you will be allowed to apply for another permit.

Note: The parking system used is activated by payroll.  This means you will not become active until you have received your first paycheck.  Until then you must stop by the front gate to receive a temporary parking permit.

  4. The page will load and you will see, “Select your vehicles for Permit >>”.   You may only purchase one permit at a time.  Select the vehicle(s) that are currently on your record that you want to use with your permit.  If you need to add new vehicles, choose "Add Vehicle" below. When finished, click Next >>Permit Direct’ permit will send the permit directly to your home.  Make sure to add or edit your address.  You must select the permit being applied for and check the boxes agreeing to follow the rules and regulations.  Go to the Public Safety Parking page for the most up to date rules and regulations) then press the Next button.
  5. You may only purchase one permit at a time.  Select the vehicle(s) that are currently on your record that you want to use with your permit.  If you need to add new vehicles, choose "Add Vehicle" below. When finished, click Next >>
  6. Verify your address to mail the permit to and the email to send you the status and click on ‘NEXT’.
  7. At this point you will see, “Below are the items in your cart. Select your method of payment and click Pay Now to proceed with your payment or return to add more permits or citations to your cart”.  You will notice the amount is $0.00.  Press PAY NOW.
  8. Your Payment information will appear.  Once you verify check the box for that you have read and understand the above. Again press PAY NOW
  9. An email confirmation will be sent. 

In most cases when applied for properly, your permit will be shipped to you in 3-5 business day.  You can pick up a temporary permit from DPS information booth located at the Main entrance of the University

To All law and graduate students from the Department of Public Safety:

Starting August 1, all law students are required to apply for your 2023-2024 parking permits at: http://rwu.t2hosted.com/.   Law students will be allowed to apply for multiple owned vehicle permits, however, please note that there is a $175.00 fee for each vehicle permit which can be paid for by credit/debit card.  There is no charge for a replacement permit on an existing vehicle that has already been registered during the academic year.  If once you have purchased and paid for your 23-24 permit you are replacing a windshield or replacing a car on file with a new car, please notify the parking and transportation office at parking@rwu.edu before you apply for a new permit.  After invalidating your old permit, you will be allowed to apply for another permit.

When finished, click Next your permit will be available for pickup from the Main entrance of the University from the Parking and Transportation office with your valid ID and vehicle registration.  You must select the permit being applied for and check the boxes agreeing to follow the rules and regulations.  Go to the Public Safety Parking page for the most up to date rules and regulations) then press the Next button.
