The Latino Policy Institute at Roger Williams University is committed to generating and communicating non-partisan data of Latinos in Rhode Island. LPI stimulates public policy discussions and enhances the public’s understanding of the Rhode Island Latino experience.
LPI is made up of professionals representing a diverse range of sectors and disciplines. We are anchored at Roger Williams University, and are a program of the University located on the Metro Campus.
In June 2015, Latino Policy Institute at Roger Williams University released, Strength in Adversity. Focusing on mixed-status families in Rhode Island, Dr. Kalina Brabeck of Rhode Island College and LPI's first research fellow, showcases strengths such as educational expectations and bilingual communication.
In February 2016, Latino Policy Institute at Roger Williams University released, State of Working Rhode Island: The Latino Labor Force, highlighting Latino specific data from Economic Progress Institute's, The State of Working Rhode Island 2015: Workers of Color report.
In May 2016, Latino Policy Institute at Roger Williams University released, Teacher Diversity in Rhode Island. Engaging teachers in our local school system, Sam Saltz, UEP at Brown University, gathered quantitative data to further explore the importance of high-quality teachers of color, as well as shortages in key education areas.
