Professor Andrew Cohen receives 2012 BSA Award for Kayak.com Offices

July 31st, 2012 by swhite

Professor of Architecture Andrew Cohen’s firm, ACTWO, Wayland, MA (formerly Andrew Cohen Architects) has won a 2012 Boston Society of Architects Design Award for its interior design of the Concord, MA offices of Kayak.com. ACTWO’s design of the 15,000sf facility accommodates the software engineering and marketing divisions, completing a second phase expansion to accommodate Kayak’s explosive growth.  The initial third floor space, organized around the translucent orange server room and open kitchen area, provides a new concept of the 21st century open office with no dedicated reception area. The palette of materials explores the relationship of illuminated solids and voids that form enclosures around the main spaces.

The new space connects the third floor to the second with a dramatic stair incision that serves as a social interaction center, providing access to more work spaces, as well as to facilities for employee interaction, including new innovation team rooms, a 35’ long dynamic coffee bar and employee hub, as well as an triply expandable conference room, and an employee game and recreation center.

The Boston Society of Architects Awards were announced this summer, with the formal presentation of the awards to be at the BSA’s awards gala on January 31, 2013.
