Beverly Willis, FAIA inspires SAAHP Women’s Leadership Network at Homecoming October 20

November 3rd, 2012 by Anonymous

Beverly Willis, FAIA, architect-philanthropist and Founder of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF), New York, offered an overview of her work to SAAHP alumni, students, parents and faculty, as well as several faculty and alumni from other schools during Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, October 20. Willis spoke about the challenges and opportunities women in architecture, engineering and construction face, and called for the writing of women’s contributions into architectural history where they are conspicuously absent from the record, as well as increased sponsorship of women to create  more equitable account of the past and a way forward.

Willis’ remarks were followed by a meeting of the SAAHP Women’s Leadership Network, consisting of alumni, faculty, adjunct faculty and student leaders, who are developing a multi-year program of activities, including undertaking a study of women’s academic achievement and leadership at Roger Williams, based on a similar study undertaken at Princeton in 2011.
