2012 AIA Rhode Island Scholarship Winners Announced

August 17th, 2012 by glaramie

Kristen Weigel The AIA Rhode Island Architectural Forum, the charitable arm of AIA Rhode Island (AIAri) in 2012 continued its remarkable support for architectural education in the state, through the continued fundraising for and awarding of scholarships to deserving architecture students at Rhode Island architecture programs, and for Rhode Island architecture students attending architecture programs in other states. One of the most successful events of the year for AIAri is its Annual Golf Tournament, with all proceeds going to scholarship fund.  The AIAri Architectural Forum also stewards funds from the endowed Norton Salk Memorial Scholarship fund for these students, also awarded annually.  AIA Rhode Island Awards are presented at the annual Golf Tournament, held this year at the Ledgemont Country Club in Seekonk.

In 2012, Roger Williams Architecture students won 3 of 4 AIA Rhode Island scholarship awards totaling $9000. Winners include:

Kristen Weigel, 1st year student, Norton Salk Scholarship Winner

Jessica Vara, 4th year student, DF Pray Foundation Scholarship Winner

Kelly Clarke, 3rd year student

Weigel’s work was chosen for the top award even though she has completed her first year of study, for the thoughtfulness of her application, and evidence of outstanding promise.
