Four RWU Architecture students win 2015 AIA Rhode Island Scholarships totaling $10,000+

AIA Rhode Island has awarded four of five of its annual AIA Rhode Island Scholarship awards, and more than $10,000 in support, to Roger Williams Architecture students this July for the 2015/16 academic year. These include:

  • The $4500 Norton Salk Memorial Scholarship Award awarded to Nathan Lynch, who will be a 3rd year student in 2015/16. This is the top scholarship awarded by the chapter
  • One $3000 AIA Rhode Island Scholarship to Bradley Postian, entering his 5th year of study
  • Two $1500 scholarships--one to Timothy Allen, entering his 2nd year of study, another to Justin Zafra, entering his 5th year

AIA Rhode Island has developed a generous scholarship program through fundraising by chapter members through its annual golf tournament, support from AIA national, and stewardship of endowed funds guided by the Rhode Island Foundation.

RWU-RISD Annual Architecture Student Exhibition at AIA Rhode Island, June-August 2015

The 6th annual RWU-RISD Architecture Student Exhibition was held at AIA Rhode Island from June 18-July 15, 2015, with an opening on June 18 as part of Gallery Night Providence. More than 20 galleries in the city open their doors to the public on the third Thursday each month from March through October. Roger Williams University Architecture work this year focused on undergraduate and graduate student award winners.

New 2015 Sustainable Practices Partnership established between RWU, Tremco and AIA Rhode Island

Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance, Roger Williams University and AIA Rhode Island have established a 2015 Sustainable Practices Partnership.  As part of the three-part collaboration, Tremco will sponsor a Fall/Spring Sustainable Practices Lecture and Seminar Series, sponsor sustainability-related speakers at the AIA RI Summer Education Expo. Tremco will also host an RWU Architecture intern to learn about Tremco’s sustainable project development, supported by the SAAHP Career Investment Program. The seminar series, open to University students and faculty, design professionals and the community, will focus on best practices in high performance building envelopes, sustainability and building technologies.

Architecture Students win AIA Rhode Island, Industrial Fabrics Foundation Scholarships

Graduate student Ellen Hassett and undergraduate Kristen Weigel have been awarded 2014 AIA Rhode Island Scholarships by the AIA Rhode Island Architectural Forum, the charitable arm of AIA Rhode Island. Hassett has been awarded $3100, and Weigel the $1000 DF Pray Scholarship. Weigel has also been awarded a $1000 2014 Industrial Fabrics Foundation Architecture Student Scholarship for the second consecutive year.
