Introduction
The Office of Web and Electronic Communications in conjunction with the Department of Information Technology provides free web space/hosting services for those at Roger Williams University who qualify.
This hosting service reduces costs university-wide by removing the need for a department to invest in web server hardware and staff to manage it.
The following are qualified for unrestricted web space/hosting:
- University Applications
- University Special Programs (Homecoming)
- University Special Projects (ex: Civil Discourse)
- University Centers (ex: Career Center)
- University Institutes (ex: Institute for Teaching and Learning)
- Schools (ex: School of Education)
- Administrative Departments and Offices (ex: University Advancement)

- Personal Student, Faculty, or Staff Websites
If your web site type does not fall under one of the categories above, then please contact the University Webmaster to discuss your website.
Services
Below is an executive overview of the base services offered to those who qualify.
- Web space for website (space size dependent on website type).
- FTP access to modify site content (staging for unrestricted, live for restricted)
- A web address within the RWU.EDU domain
- Server-side scripting such as Perl, ASP, ASP.NET, PHP
- A full backup everyday
Additional services currently offered to unrestricted web hosting entities:
- FormMail for HTML form processing
- Database access (SQL, MySQL, Access)
- Web Support
Additional services not currently offered to restricted web hosting entities:
- Database access
- Web Support
Hosting of the following files types is not allowed unless specific permission has been granted. If you would like to host these file types, a formal request must be made with justification.
- Audio (MP3, etc)
- Video (AVI, MOV, MPEG, etc)
- Executables (EXE, VBS, BAT)
