The University encourages applications from both first-year (freshman) and transfer students, and the application process is tailored to the individual student. First-year candidates (who comprise the majority of applicants) are expected to complete a strong college preparatory program that includes four units of both English and mathematics, and three of social science and natural science.

Additionally, some academic programs at the University have specialized requirements for admission—Architecture, Visual and Performing Arts and Engineering, for example. For details, refer to your intended program’s special requirements for admission.

When evaluating the qualifications of each applicant, the admissions committee considers secondary education courses, achievements, extracurricular activities and recommendations. Recognizing that experience vary greatly, the University makes every attempt to ensure that the selection process is fair and admits qualified students without regard to gender, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, disability or ethnic origin.
